PM Shehbaz Sharif Assures CJ Yahya Afridi of Swift Action on Missing Persons

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, at the Chief Justice House, assuring him of expedited measures regarding missing persons.

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar, Adviser Ahmed Cheema, and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan.

The official statement highlighted that the meeting was part of the Chief Justice’s judicial reforms agenda. Justice Afridi had earlier sent an agenda for the Judicial Policy Making Committee meeting, seeking suggestions.

The Registrar of the Supreme Court and the Secretary of the Law and Justice Commission were also present in the meeting. During the discussion, Chief Justice Afridi presented a commemorative shield to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The Prime Minister congratulated Justice Afridi on assuming office and expressed his best wishes. The two dignitaries also discussed the country's economic situation and security challenges.

During the conversation, the Chief Justice emphasized that judicial policymaking would be carried out in consultation with the opposition to ensure that reforms remain non-controversial and sustainable. He also welcomed the Prime Minister’s commitment to improving the justice system and sought his suggestions for further improvements.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured the Chief Justice that swift and effective measures would be taken to address the issue of missing persons. He also urged the Chief Justice to ensure merit-based and speedy verdicts in pending cases.

Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif briefed the Chief Justice on pending tax dispute cases in various courts and lauded his initiative to engage stakeholders for timely dispensation of justice.
